We’re pleased to announce the upcoming release of “Breathing Underwater” in Luxembourg cinemas on November 13, 2024. This powerful and moving film addresses the topic of domestic violence and highlights the resilience of women who overcome it.
Set in Luxembourg, “Breathing Underwater” follows the journey of Emma (played by Swiss actress Carla Juri), a woman who, pregnant and bruised, seeks refuge in a women’s shelter. Amid her struggle, she finds herself forming bonds with other residents, each dealing with their own traumas. Together, they discover a sense of solidarity and hope as they reclaim their self-worth and independence. The cast features both professional and non-professional actors, including Carla Juri, Véronique Tshanda Beya, and Luc Schiltz, among others.
Based on extensive research and real-life accounts from women’s shelters in Luxembourg, this film brings a deeply authentic portrayal of the challenges—and strengths—of those impacted by domestic violence.
