On 10 September 2024, the UK Government announced that all visitors to the UK, except British and Irish nationals, will need an electronic travel authorization (ETA) to travel to the UK.

From 27 November 2024, non-EU passport holders can apply for an ETA to travel to the UK from 08 January 2025. ETAs will then extend to EU passport holders from 05 March 2025, to travel to the UK from 02 April 2025. This digital visa, similar to the American Esta, will cost £10 (around €12).

The ETA will be valid for several trips over a two-year period and will allow people to stay for up to six months on each visit.
